| Author's Note: |
I first met J.J. when I was at Ca Lu. He had come out from the rear
area in Dong Ha to check out the possibility of setting up a Medical Civilian
Action Program (MedCAP) in the Ca Lu area. Shortly afterward, I received
orders for R&R in Japan. I needed khaki uniform to leave VietNam, since
all I had were my jungle utilities, J.J. loaned me his. I proceeded to
DaNang and then to Tokyo. When I returned he was dead. He and 2 other corpsmen
(Cook and Nelson) were killed in a rocket attack on Dong Ha. They had taken
cover in a trench outside the Battalion Aid Station and a rocket made a
direct hit on their position. |
